Communities, landholders and anyone else can use the Register for free, permanently. Organisations that need to analyse, compare and work with the data license named-user access.
The Social Licence Register makes project commitments, community benefits and the supporting evidence publicly accessible. Every project profile, every commitment and every source document stays free to view.
A licence buys access, never influence.
Public
Free and open to everyone.
Explore renewable energy projects, commitments and the evidence behind them.
- Every project and commitment
- Source documents and evidence
- Government investment tracking
- Search by town, project or council
- All ten Register categories
Licensed
For organisations working with the record at scale.
Everything in Public, plus the working tools to analyse and compare.
- The full detailed project list — project timeline, all ten categories, what councils asked for and what they got
- LGA summaries — councils compared side by side
- Commitment detail for projects approved but not yet started
- Filter by council, stage and funding source
- Change tracking and alerts
- All published New South Wales Renewable Energy Zones
Councils participating in the pilot receive free licensed access for the pilot period.
Participating councils can see renewable energy commitments, community benefits, workforce impacts and project activity across their area through a single independent record — project information drawn from planning documents and other public sources, alongside the benefit-sharing guideline that applied at the time of each approval, so the record is consistent and source-linked.
Founding councils also help shape how the Register develops, and set a new standard of transparency across Renewable Energy Zones.

Website disclaimerExpand ▾
The Social Licence Register provides independent, general information drawn from publicly available sources.
We take reasonable care to accurately identify, record and present information contained in primary source documents. However, project information changes over time and we do not guarantee that information on the Register is complete, current or free from error or omission.
Register entries are summaries prepared using our published methodology. They do not replace the original source documents. Every entry links to the source it came from, and users should review those sources and independently verify information where it matters to a decision.
What a “not located” or “silent” entry means. Where the Register records a commitment as not located, silent, or no target provided, that is a statement about what we could verify in the public record at the date shown. It is not a finding that an organisation has made no such commitment, and it is not a finding that an organisation has failed to deliver one. Information may exist that is not publicly available, or that was not published at the time the record was compiled. Much of what the public record does not show is a disclosure gap rather than a delivery gap.
Point in time, and corrections. Each entry shows the date it was compiled or last reviewed. The Register as published online is the current version and supersedes any earlier version, and any report, extract or printed page taken from it. Where we correct an entry we record the change in our change register. If you are relying on a figure, check it against the live Register and its cited source.
Right of reply. Every proponent is given access to its own record and invited to confirm, correct or add to it, with any resulting changes published in our change register. Where a proponent provides additional information from a primary source, the record is updated. Where a public claim and the independent record differ, we publish both with their sources.
Nothing on the Register constitutes legal, financial, investment, planning or other professional advice. To the extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for loss or damage arising from reliance on information made available through the Register.
The Register is independent. Unless expressly stated, the inclusion of a project, developer, government agency, council or other organisation does not imply that organisation’s endorsement of the Register, nor does inclusion constitute endorsement by the Register.
The Register contains links to third-party websites and documents to provide access to source material. We do not control those external sites and are not responsible for their availability, content or privacy practices.
How we compile and check the Register, including our use of technology, is set out on our How we verify page.
Privacy PolicyExpand ▾
The Social Licence Register respects your privacy and is committed to handling personal information responsibly. We handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect from you
We may collect personal information when you contact us, subscribe for updates, request a demonstration, create or use a licensed account, participate in project verification, or otherwise provide information directly to us.
Depending on your interaction with the Register, this may include your name, email address, organisation, position, correspondence and information you choose to provide.
What we collect automatically
When you access the Register we and our service providers may record technical information including your IP address, the date and time of access, the pages or documents you viewed, and information about your browser or device.
For licensed and pilot areas of the Register, access is by individual login. We record which account accessed which material and when. We use these records to operate and secure the service, to administer licence conditions — including identifying accounts shared contrary to those conditions — and to report usage in aggregate to funders. Licensed material may display the name or email address of the account viewing it.
Our website may use cookies or analytics technologies to understand website use and improve the service.
How we use personal information
We use this information to operate, secure and improve the Register, respond to enquiries, manage subscriptions and accounts, administer licence conditions, administer our verification and correction processes, and communicate with users about the Register.
We do not sell personal information.
We do not use AI tools to process personal information. Technology used in compiling the Register is applied to published source documents. How we use technology is set out on our How we verify page.
The change register
Where a proponent or other organisation asks us to correct a record, we publish the change in our change register. We identify the organisation that requested the change. We do not publish the name of the individual who made the request.
Service providers and overseas disclosure
We use third-party technology, hosting, authentication, analytics and email providers to operate the Register. Where personal information is provided to those providers, it is used only for the purpose of providing those services. Our access control and hosting are provided by Cloudflare, which authenticates users by email address.
Our website hosting and access control are provided by Cloudflare, Inc., based in the United States. Our email is provided by Microsoft 365; for our account, Microsoft stores the core content of our email and files at rest in Australia, but some related service data — such as system logs, security and support — may be handled by Microsoft or its personnel in other countries. As a result, some personal information may be stored or processed outside Australia, including in the United States. By using the Register you acknowledge that your personal information may be disclosed to recipients in those locations.
How long we keep it
We keep account information for the term of the relevant licence and for seven years after it ends. We keep enquiry and correspondence information for two years. Where we no longer need personal information, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.
Access, correction and complaints
You may contact us to request access to, or correction of, personal information we hold about you, or to raise a privacy concern. We will respond within a reasonable period.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Copyright and source materialExpand ▾
The Social Licence Register draws on publicly available documents and information published by government agencies, project proponents and other organisations. Source documents are obtained manually from public registers and websites. We do not use automated collection, scraping or bots.
Source material
Copyright in original source documents remains with the relevant copyright owner. Links and citations are provided wherever practicable so users can access the original source material, and where we host an extract of a source document we do so to make the cited page accessible, not to republish the work.
Material we use under open licences is used subject to the terms of those licences:
- Material published by the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, including material on the NSW Planning Portal, is used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence.
- Material published by the Energy Corporation of New South Wales is used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence and credited “© EnergyCo.”
- AEMO material is used under AEMO’s Copyright Permissions, with attribution to AEMO as author. AEMO makes no representation as to the accuracy or completeness of that material.
Those licences do not extend to the Commonwealth or State Coat of Arms, or to the symbols, logos or trade marks of any government or agency, and we do not reproduce them.
Third-party material within published documents
Many documents published on government registers — environmental impact statements, social impact assessments, consultant reports and similar — were prepared by third parties and remain the copyright of their authors. We quote only short extracts from those documents, for the purpose of analysis, comment and reporting on the public record, and each extract is attributed and linked to its source so it can be read in context.
If you own copyright in material referred to on the Register and consider that our use exceeds what is permitted, please contact us at info@sociallicenceregister.com.au and we will review it promptly.
The Register’s own material
Unless otherwise indicated, the Register’s original content, methodology, analysis, classifications, commentary, data structures, design and presentation are © KO Engagement Pty Ltd (ABN 89 629 380 776) trading as The Social Licence Register, 2026.
